Dirty Furniture #1
In This Item
The launch issue looks at the price tag of haunted furniture, the history of ‘comfort’ and the role of the sofa in sitcoms. They take the covers off Freud’s couch, peek into designers’ homes to see what sofa they live with, and scrutinise Tony Blair’s so-called ‘sofa politics’. Foam comes under the spotlight in a materials focus, manufacturing approaches are revealed, and a couchsurfer, an upholsterer and an antique dealer are interviewed.

Conceived as a finite printed series of six and showcasing design’s best writers and emerging talents, each issue takes a piece of furniture as its theme and uses it as a springboard to explore topics spanning politics, design, history, technology, psychology, manufacturing, art – and the plain weird.
